Contributor Guidelines
Envision
is an electronic journal, published semi-annually, that is dedicated to
advancing the practice of child welfare in Manitoba. The goals of the
journal are:
To share innovations and issues in practice, policy, knowledge, research,
skill development, and administration in child welfare;
To stimulate discussion of regional and provincial child welfare issues; and
To promote connections and the exchange of ideas among those who work
in child welfare.
We encourage contributors to submit articles on a broad range of topics central to the
goals of Envision. Articles may be based on the author’s original research, experience
and/or should develop a theoretical understanding of a topic. Articles will be selected
based on the topic’s interest to journal readers, the timeliness and significance of the
subject matter, the quality of writing and documentation, and the originality and
contribution to child welfare practice.
The Envision journal welcomes contributions from all who work in and with the child
welfare system, including social workers, family support staff, foster parents, adoptive
parents, educators, researchers, community collaterals and others.
Upon initial submission contributors should:
Use a practical/professional style of writing;
Ensure that the article is 2000-5000 words in length
(excluding references);
Ensure that the entire submission, including abstract
and cover sheet is double spaced and one sided;
Include an abstract that does not exceed 100 words;
Attach one cover letter indicating the name of the
article, the contributor’s name and affiliation, and
where the contributor can be contacted (the contributor’s
name should not appear in the body of the article);
Include three to four biographical lines at the end of the
article including the position/title of the contributor and/or
relevant practical/research interests; and
Use the most recent edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological
Assocation guidelines for all textual citations, quotations, references, tables,
illustrations, subheadings and page formatting etc. These guidelines
can be located on the web at
http://owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/research/r_apa.html,
or, an abbreviated hard copy of these guidelines can be obtained by
contacting the editor.

Envision particularly encourages submissions from first time writers.
For submissions from new writers we would suggest the following:
Establish the context for your article. Some helpful questions include:
What problem, questions or issue does this article intend to address?
State the purpose of your article and keep it focused;
Use clear and concise language avoiding jargon,
clichés and excessively long sentences; and
Seek feed back from peers and colleagues before submitting the final draft.
Submissions
Forward three 8 ½ x 11 inch paper copies to the editor (if your article is
selected for publication then one copy will be returned to you with editorial
comments). Submissions are accepted at any time throughout the year for
consideration for upcoming issues. Deadlines are December 1st for the spring
issue and June 1st for the fall issue of Envision. Submissions that do not meet
deadlines for the next issue but receive positive reviews may be selected for
publication in a later edition.
Review Process
The review process ensures contributors’ anonymity through blind review of all
articles by Editorial Committee members and other selected reviewers. The Editorial
Committee will make final decisions after all reviews have been received. Once
articles have been submitted, contributors can expect to hear back from the
Editorial Committee within two to three months advising whether the article
has been accepted.
Process for Selected Articles
If accepted, the article will be sent back to the contributor with editorial comments
for revision. The editor can be contacted should the contributor require further explanation
regarding the editorial revisions. If agreeable to the contributor, the necessary revisions
will need to be submitted to the editor on paper and disk using Microsoft Word format. The
paper copy must match the diskette copy exactly.
