Guide for Reviewers
Envision
is the electronic journal, published semi-annually, that is dedicated to
advancing the practice of child welfare in Manitoba. The purpose of this
e-journal is to provide a provincial forum for those who care about child
welfare in Manitoba. Our goals are:
to share innovations and issues in practice, policy, knowledge, research,
skill development and administration in child welfare
to stimulate discussion of regional and provincial child welfare issues
to promote connections and the exchange of ideas among those who work in child welfare.
Each article that is submitted to the Editorial Committee for publication in Envision
is forwarded for review to two reviewers: one who is a member of the Editorial Committee
of Envision, and one who is a practitioner with knowledge in the field. The purpose
of the review is to benefit from the reviewers’ knowledge and experience, to gain the
reviewers’ critical assessment of the article, and to provide concrete feedback to the
contributor(s). The review process helps the Editorial Committee in making decisions
about articles for publication, and also guides contributors in strengthening their
professional writing.
General Guidelines
All articles should have the following characteristics:
1.
The article should be clearly written, logically developed, and well organized,
with appropriate headings, an introduction and a conclusion.
2.
The rationale, goals, concepts and problem statements should be clearly stated.
3.
The article should meet the Guidelines for Contributors (Reviewers should be
familiar with this document).
4.
Content of the article should be supported by the relevant
literature and accurately referenced.
5.
Since the target audience of the journal is wide (child welfare social workers,
supervisors, foster parents, collaterals, students, etc.), the article should be
written in a style that is practical and professional, yet accessible to this
population.

Procedures for Reviewers
1.
Since this is a blind review process, do not put your name on the Review Form.
However, do put the title of the article that you have reviewed on the Form.
2.
Please consider articles under review to be confidential. Do not share or
discuss them with others, and return the article with your review feedback
to the editor.
3.
Be on time with your review. If you cannot review the article in the timeframe
indicated on the Review Form, please contact the editor immediately.
4.
Be clear and constructive in your feedback, providing specific examples of problems
you have identified and suggestions of ways to improve the article. Be tactful and
respectful, even if the article arouses some negative emotions. Any serious concerns
about the article will be addressed by the editor.
5.
Concern yourself mostly with the substance and style of the article. However, you
may also notice problems with grammar, spelling, etc. that should be identified.
6.
Although we encourage you to use the Review Form, please feel free to add notations
on the hardcopy of the article.
7.
Return both the hardcopy of the article and the completed Review Form to the editor,
who will consolidate the feedback from both reviewers and forward the final revision
recommendations to the contributor.
